BEAUTY

Post by Cropduster » Tue Mar 15, 2016 8:17 am

BEAUTY
If a man could be born to a world of his own
and was given all needs to survive,
with water aplenty and nourishment grown,
the essentials to keep him alive.
Yet have he no contact with his fellow man,
no influences be brought to bear,
I wonder what he might find beauty within,
if nothing with which to compare.
Would the moon and the stars in the evening sky
be artistry to be admired?
Or simply the lights that hang there, upon high,
when the afternoon sun has retired.
Would a butterfly thrill? Would a bird on the wing?
Would the flowers and trees be delights?
Would rainbows and sunsets be wondrous things
that he hungers to keep in his sights?
Would spiders and insects be treats for the eye,
or would he still recoil in fear?
From snakes and from reptiles would he always shy,
or intrigued, would he ever draw near?
Is beauty subjective or is it innate?
Is that which now pleases the eye,
inherent within us, or served on a plate
by ancestors from times gone by?
Is fear and repugnance inbuilt as the tools
that keep us from danger and harm?
If that be the case, then I must be the fool,
who has just failed to heed the alarm.

Lovely Allan - an interesting question to pose and with so much truth in there. I really like this poem.
