Can you spare a mate one dollar?

CAN YOU SPARE A MATE ONE DOLLAR? … Maureen Clifford © The ‪#‎ScribblyBark‬ Poet

The local supermarkets through their doors every day
see very many people come to shop and most do pay.
The Woolworths stats claimed that last year they served most every week
twenty one million people across Oz – that’s as we speak.
And Coles claim that their numbers are also close to that.
Add in Aldi and IGA – put all into one hat
and the numbers are astounding – forty million plus each week
from whom we seek one dollar – just one dollar’s what we seek.

Imagine for a minute that instead of give aways
they simply asked each customer when for their goods they pay.
“Would you donate one dollar to a cause dear to our heart
and help an Aussie farmer and his town? Please see our chart.

And every store proudly displayed would show each Aussie region
where the drought is hitting hard and our weather is the reason.
Could show a line in red that rises with each gold donation
from their customers, to show they care for farmers ‘cross our nation.

It’s not a big ask is it? Would you really miss a buck?
Your dollar just might save a life – to someone out of luck.
Might give a bit of breathing space to a family with none,
could help to keep a town alive when all its hope has gone.
It just needs normal people to set something in place
that’s big enough to have effect – and self respect replace.
Our farmers stock our supermarkets – fresh food grown and shared
and supermarkets could do this to say that – “Yes we cared.

We cared enough to hear your plea – we know about your plight
we want to help, we have the power, the numbers and the right
to put this plan in action, help an Aussie farmer out."

So come on supermarkets, band together – you’ve got clout.

.... The farmers and farming communities need MONEY to keep the banks from foreclosing on their properties, to keep their kids at school, to spend in their LOCAL stores so those local shops don’t go to the wall, to buy fuel to check on what stock they have left and most importantly to pay their mortgages, and we as a nation can help.

.WHAT DO YOU THINK? Can we save our own farming families? I like to think there is enough Aussie Spirit left for us to do this.

I wonder if the grocery retailers care Maureen. They seems to get plenty of stock from imports.

My neighbour has a tree laden with mandarins and in the local supermarket there are mandarins, produce of the USA.

I don't know if they care Neville - it is always the $'s that rule - but they are in an ideal position to be able to help even with something as simple as putting collection tins on the check out counters. With the sheer volume of customers they get through their stores every day just imagine if they dedicated one day a month to helping out the Aussie farmers by collecting $1 from customers - it would make a hell of a difference.
