Many thanks, all. I am very touched. I never imagined such a positive response to an 'off the cuff' poem like this. I was just feeling my way as I wrote. Perhaps that's the best way...

Beautiful, Stephen!
When I do the odd poetry workshop (that's occasional-odd, not strange-odd!) I always say "don't be afraid to keep it simple". Your poem is a perfect example of that - uncluttered but with just the right words.

Yes I think sometimes words just work, and here they do, irregardless of the metric pattern used.
