The point is not the pontificating and grandstanding of politicians, nor the futile acts of retribution (ha), nor the media, social or mainstream, milking every drop of life-blood from such a heart wrenching story, only to fixate on the next bit of titillation that excites the populous and attracts sponsorship dollars.

All that will continue ad nauseam.

Two men lost their lives because as very young men they took the odds to making a quick score. Like most of us, their powers of reasoning and making valued decisions at 21 years of age are dubious.

I care not what the laws of another nation say. I care not whether they were aware of the penalties. I care not that they were trafficking drugs.

I care that a world of so called intelligent human beings with the power to make considered decisions, taking into account the time served in prison, taking into account the obvious efforts to rehabilitate, taking into account the role these two men played in rehabilitating others, still chose to go ahead with brutal executions. If our world leaders are capable of such profound absurdity and perversion, if that is the example they choose to set for us to follow, then God help us all.

In case you haven't noticed folks, we are all sentenced to death. As Macauley noted, death cometh soon or late.

I wonder if that could be used as a defence in a murder trial.

It has been used as defence in a civil case against a Govt dept.

No, true story. A man was killed in an industrial mishap and his wife sued. A post mortem examination revealed that the man had evidence of serious heart disease and previous heart attack, so the defence argued that he had no life expectancy left anyway.

The heart condition didn't determine that he would die from an industrial incident. It's a bit chicken and egg. How would you know what your life expectancy was if you weren't killed in an industrial accident.
