"World acclaimed" puts a lot of pressure on someone Zondrae - it's not all it's cracked up to be. We can't begin to guess at the issues someone with depression has.

In The Price of Greatness, a 1995 study of 1000 eminent 20th century figures by psychiatrist Arnold Ludwig, it was claimed that 77% of the poets had suffered from at least one significant depressive episode. The argument seems to be that extremely creative people (and Williams was certainly that in his field...a mind working at light speed with an incredible talent for the absurd) can be caught up in a constant struggle to make life meaningful. Spike Milligan, Stephen Fry, and Tony Hancock also spring to mind. And, among the poets, Poe, Blake, Sassoon, Keats, Wilde, Plath, and our own Les Murray.
