Things

Post by Gary Harding » Mon Nov 04, 2013 2:44 pm

This poem was written for self-amusement years ago.
It makes no pretense at approaching the excellent and amazing standard of the Bush Poems that are presented so professionally here !

If it has anything at all to commend it, then it is its simplicity... so please bear/bare with me.
I have not been to temperance classes (if such things exist?) but the words seemed to fit in.

However I do have a big certificate of merit from the Independent Order Of Rechabites earned at Hughesdale State School No 3176.
It gets a huge laugh when people see it.
"Ya gotta be kidding" they say.... I wonder why?

Cup Day tomorrow.
As ABP did, it is time to go and eat a huge dinner of lobster and ham, pickles and jam.... for I need to dream the Winner.!

THINGS

There are things that do not matter,
And there's other things that do,
And there's things that come between us,
Things that bother me and you.

Where's that thing-o we've forgotten,
And the things that can't be found.
Unknown things we've proudly planted,
Things that spring up in the ground.

Some things can't be bought for money.
Some things do and do not rhyme.
When you whisper sweet things to me
I do things at double time.

One must always do the right thing.
It's the done thing to be true.
Do the things that bring you pleasure.
Do the things you dislike too!

All those things that dog our conscience.
Won't the darn things go away.
We will see those things tomorrow,
Things recycled yesterday.

Things are just an endless treadmill,
But you've heard those things I think.
Things we learned in temperance classes,
Where the thing is not to drink!.

Write these things down if they grab you,
If they have a valid ring.
I would lend you my best biro,
But — I cannot find the thing!

P.S.
I really should polish this poem,
But it's late and I'm off to bed.
So I'll leave for your contemplation
The things I have left unsaid.

sincere best wishes.... Gary
