The Ladies

Post by Bob Pacey » Mon Oct 21, 2013 7:59 am

The Ladies

They are sitting at the doorway waiting for a feed
banging on the screen door like a hungry breed.
My mind is sorta muddled, must be from lack of sleep
I stumble to the kitchen and one makes a mighty leap.

Both of you are standing there just staring in door
but why are you so noisy that's what irks me to the core.
I wonder why I ever let you come into my life
you used to be so cuddly now all you do is cause me strife.

I know you are bloody hungry I mumble to no one
I was gonna sleep in late today but once again you've won.
I grab some scraps from out the fridge and think that will be right
that's the last time I'll ever forget to lock in the chooks at night.

Well they are creatures of habit Robert and you can't go letting the side down like that - of course you could try installing autimatic feeders for them then you wouldn't have to worry about the A. M. feed. I love chookies

No No No Maureen where would be the joy in that, half the enjoyment is going down the back yard and feeding the chooks and collecting the bounty. I have another three in the incubator due in six days but these two old girls are my favourites.

I just let them out for a pick around the yard on a Sunday arvo but forgot to lock the gate, They have the whole yard to fossick in but no they come and sit and s-it at my back door .

Cheers Bob oh by the way Willie the Indian Ringneck I rescued is now Willit after laying two eggs.

Oooh Bob - I think they fancy you - such a fine feathered fellow that you are and now you're a step dad to little Ringnecks. Did you know that birds imprint on the first face they see when they hatch from the egg?

had that yesterday Maureen camper handed in a baby curlew, Found it hard to explain that they will sit quietly till mum and dad come back, Luckily I knew where they were hiding and took it back. The bloody thing started following me until it squeaked and mum went berserk as dad ushered the baby back to its sibling.

A very happy ending as the last nest was destroyed by some hoons.

Mum and dad earlier in the years.
