Re: Her Kitchen Ruled
g'day boys and girls,
I still use my Common Sense Cook Book. Not every day because most of the recipes are well memorised.
I have, over the years, hand written in several recipes that I have been given. Most of them came from good old fashioned country women. The Lemon Butter, Tomato relish and other preserving metods I have been taught by rural ladies are the most reliable and simples you can find. They never fail, if you stick to the recipe and don't 'fiddle' with it. I have Apricot jam from my own Apricot tree, Beetroot and Tomato Relish from my veggie garden all stacked on the top shelf of the kitchen pantry. Along with my mother-in-law's Christmas Pudding and special curry recipes they are invaluable to me.
In fact, I have even bought an extra copy of the Common Sense to have in case my old one becomes unreadable. I have passed the best of my collected recipes to my daughters in little hand written books they now treasure and use.
Sometimes older is better.

Zondrae you'd get on well with my wife Valma, she also does a lot of bottling, including cucumber relish & tomato relish, plus apricot, marmalade, plum and sometimes fig jam. She Also makes pickles and chutney's and they're all yummy.
