Re: Old Mates
G/day Bob,
We Aussies use the term MATE pretty loosely at times, for some of us everybody’s a mate, or at least anyone who’ll take the time to exchange the odd word or two with us.
But for most of us there are degrees of mateship, there’s the intro mate, where you greet a new bloke with a handshake and a “Pleased to meet you mate, or G/day mate”. Then there’s the casual acquaintance you pass in the street with a “How it going mate”. The next step on the ladder will be the men or women you regularly socialize with, these are regular mates. But if you are really lucky in your entire lifetime you may have one or two special mates, but as the saying goes, they’re as rare as hens teeth and almost impossible to replace.
We sometimes refer to our spouses as our best mate, though on occasions they can turn into your worst enemy, according to some.
Most of us will stick up for a mate, regardless of where they Stand in the pecking order of mates
But if you have a special mate, then you are indeed a lucky person.
I can vouch for one thing Bob and that is that you have quite a few of the most recent type of mate, the Cyber Mate.
Cheers Mate,
Terry
