Old Mates

Post by Terry » Wed Apr 04, 2012 1:22 pm

OLD MATES

True mate or maybe treasured friend,
a special bond you must defend
and if by chance there is a blue,
you’ll stand by him and he by you.
No matter what the rights or wrongs
or where the rightful blame belongs,
no questions will be asked by you
this is your friend you’ll see it through
for little do you really care,
your mates in strife so you’ll be there.

You think of times when things were grim
and you’d have lost if not for him;
mistakes you’ve made along the way
or foolish things you sometimes say,
your old mate shrugs and gives a grin
and any thoughts are kept within.
You sit around the camp at night
and watch the flames dance high and bright;
you’re deep in thought - the hour grows late,
no need for words - you’re with a mate.

Very heartfelt Terry. I think we would all like to think we not only have a mate like that, but that we will be a mate like that when needed.
Thanks
Robyn.
