Australia Day activities?
Australia Day activities?
Hi Everyone, because not all of us can get to Tamworth 'this year' I'm wondering what you're getting up to - bush poetry wise (or other) - on Thursday.

Re: Australia Day activities?
We have our big beach party at Yeppoon and I've got a 10 minute spot mid afternoon. Doing a show around midday at a local Rsl Club then off to the local Big four van park for a session from 5 pm. Should be a big day.

probably swimming lessons if this rain doesn't ease up. 3 inches in the rain gauge already and still coming down. Hope they are letting water out of the Wivenhoe

The WABP&Y are being sponsored by the Melville council to hold a “Poets in The Park” at Wireless Hill Park down by Fremantle. I have been invited to present a couple of poems, Cool hey, It’s a two and a half hour drive for me but I have some family going with me so all will be good. The only down side we will be outside most of the time and it is forecast to be at least 40deg so it will be umbrellas, hats, bags of ice and gallons of water. But in all it should be a good day.

I'm off to the Boorowa Balladeers, which has been held at 4pm on Australia Day for the past 20-25 years. A lovely informal gathering of poets, readers and general enjoyers of poetry, and I've got a couple of pieces ready to go!
What about you Nerelie?

What a busy bunch of bush bards ... I hope everyone has a great day with all these fantastic activities going on. I also hope the rain stops up your way Maureen. My Beaudesert family have had enough rain for this week, and they're happy they live up on hills ... high ones
I'm heading out to Echuca's Brekky in the park and then moving onto Barmah's Australia Day Picnic. With luck it'll be a little bit cooler than what it's been lately, will still take the aeroguard though, don't like flies in or on my sizzled sausage.
Enjoy all the celebrations.
Cheers Nerelie

Re: Australia Day activities?
I'm heading down to Perth to the Poets in the Park at Wireless Hill - the one that Dave is going to. Similarly, doing a couple of poems.
Probably about 3hr drive, by the time I get through the city. And yep - forecast for 41 degrees!!! I'm going to find myself a nice shady spot under the trees, and conveniently miss my turn eh??????
Look forward to catching you down there Dave. Will miss Terry there this year, but had a call from him this morning, and he is having a great holiday on the t'otherside!!!

How boring am I?
I stayed home with my husband. We watched a bit of cricket, did some washing, went to see his sister and came home to prepare some flathead he caught on Tuesday, for dinner. after dinner Wayne went out to his shed to check the 12v TV and booster arial, we are picking up an 'A-Van' soon.
Should have it worked out by Cobargo Festival. Wow, the first Festival for about two years when I am not 'working'. I'll be able to go where I will and see what I want. It will be nice to catch up with some old friends we haven't seen for a long time.
I left something out, I did write a poem. Well just finished it really. It's about backyard cricket. So the day wasn't a loss after all.

Re: Australia Day activities?
Well we had a good day Bush poets coming out of the woodwork, had some great poets turn up Rusty Christensen, Keith (cobber) Lethbridge and Arthur Leggett, Arthur who would be the one of the oldest blokes I know says he is a Baby Boomer, “Baby Boomer” says I, yeah he recons “From word war one”
Irene was there of course and myself, I think both well received in all a great day. The temp got up to 41.5deg but we did get a sea breeze about 4.45pm, it only just made it as we were all finished by 5pm.
Called in at a seaside town on the way home and fish and chips along with some seafood chowder right on the fisherman’s wharf, a nice finish to the day.

PS
Zodrae you must of had a bad day writing a poem about cricket, sport being your not most favourite subject.
