In course of time the rain will cease,
The grounded water seek release.
Unseen, unnoticed, it will rise
To where it came from, in the skies.
Imagine how strange, how perverse,
Would be a rain drop in reverse
That rose from puddle up to cloud.
A scene like this is not allowed
By any one of Nature’s Laws,
Which makes one stop, which makes one pause.
Imagine if evaporation
Wrought a backward aberration.
Suddenly we’d have a pond,
As if produced by magic wand.
No rain to fill each dam and creek,
Yet fill they would. The gall! The cheek!
It would be a complete disgrace
To not feel rain drops on my face.
But I would be in quite a pickle
If I felt an UPWARD trickle!
Let the rain beat long and hard
Upon the roof, and on the yard,
And leave the puddles to their fate.
Let them all evaporate!
