Almost a follow on from Jeff's poem.
My daughter was home from Darwin for a week.
So I dug up this old poem I had written for her years ago - a bit soppy as we dads tend to be.
Reflection
You look at me now and just what do you see,
The shadow of what I had once used to be.
Now wrinkled and stooped from a life way outback,
and paying the price for those years on the track.
I once was your hero in days now gone by,
those times were so precious for you and for I.
You still give a smile at the yarns that I tell,
those boring old stories I used to tell well.
Remember me now as I was way back then,
an average bloke but a man among men?
A dreamer of dreams though achievements were few,
but proud to be dad to a daughter like you,
A restless young spirit with urgings to roam,
to faraway places I once had called home.
Still chasing those dreams and the time again flew,
but not a day passed without thoughts about you.
That time is now over, and life has moved on,
I live in the past and the old days are gone.
I loved then that lifestyle; but paid a price too,
for something was missing - your mother, brother, and you
                                 *****

Re: Reflection
Something perhaps I should have mentioned although I'm sure you all worked it out anyway.
It's an old poem and I must have been trying different meters.

The meter of this poem is
Unstressed = x
Stressed = /
Each line is x/xx/xx/xx/ - or supposed to be anyhow.
hope that makes sense

Re: Reflection
A bit sad Terry but beautifully reflected upon. Have you done yourself an unwarranted injustice. We don't have enough dreamers and most of us are just average blokes.

Re: Reflection
Well done Terry, may well be a bit of a softy, but I bet your daughter appreciated it!
Cheers
