SEASON OF CHANGE …. Maureen Clifford © The #ScribblyBarkPoet
The golden glow of Autumn sun beams through my window – lights the floor,
spreads seeds of happiness all round, and greedily I crave for more.
I’m warm and comfy in my bed, and nothing mars the day ahead.
There is no urgent need to rise. None to impress, no claims to prize.
‘tis only time I’m stealing.
An autumn shower passes through, rain dancing on my windowpane
Will-o’-the-wisp, now seen, now gone, tapping out one last loud refrain.
Then once again the sun peeps sly, from ‘neath a cerulean sky
A kookaburra laughs and calls – his song one that always enthrals,
with his legend appealing.
The thought of winter brings no joy, already I feel old bones creak,
and loath the thought of getting up - allowing cold to come and creep,
chilling me right through to the core, making fingers stiffen and sore,
making my feet feel icy cold, reminding me I’m getting old
as outside leaves are changing.
For now I’ll take the time to breathe, and give thanks for the day ahead.
Autumn’s my favourite time of year … less boisterous and better bred
Where Mother Nature colours bronze the leaves, and with her bright crayons
splashes bright reds, orange and golds, to deck her trees in colours bold
that set my senses reeling.

I may not always succeed in making a difference, but I will go to my grave knowing I at least tried.

Good one Maureen,
As your title suggests, I think Autumn is certainly the season where we notice the most change, making that statement Winter is just around the corner.
And I can relate to the 'old bones creak'!
Cheers
Ron.

Nicely done, Maureen. My two favourite seasons are autumn and spring - I have not experienced a winter for many years, and the heat here ensures that I don't really miss summer.... At the moment I'm seeing so many gorgeous photos on social media of the spectacular autumn colours, and I too used to love those light showers and crisp autumn days. So spring and autumn have always been the months of the year when I miss home the most.

Nice one Maureen
Like Catherine it's also my favourite time of the year.
Like you I have enough trouble with creaking bones without the problems that come with winter
Cheers Terry

Thank you all for your kind comments on this poem and my apologies for my tardy response - sometimes life just gets in the way of things and they get overlooked, but I appreciate so much you all taking the time to read and comment.

A lovely word picture, Maureen. The vote for autumn appears to be unanimous - and yes, I am in agreement. It would be nice to see the leaves becoming burnished - but here on the coast that's not a treat we can enjoy. We have to travel for that spectacle!
Cheers
