WALMART COWBOY

Post by Maureen K Clifford » Tue Oct 22, 2013 8:30 pm

This was just a bit of fun - one of my Poets in the TAT poetry mag is a fair dinkum cowboy - He cowboys for a living - the whole box and dice, roping, wrangling and branding but he happened to say that when he went into Walmart with his Mrs he had no end of trouble wrangling the shopping trolly and as a result this came about and I stole Muzza's best line   the sincerest form of flattery or is it plaguarism?

Walmart Cowboy

Maureen Clifford © The Scribbly Bark Poet

He was used to wrangling cattle – he could rope them with the best.
He could ride the trail for hours he was tough yet he confessed
that a trolley out of Walmart – well that beast had got him beat
for it lacked any direction and herding it was a feat.

And so in cowboy fashion, he vowed he’d get her rode
and in his high heeled cowboy boots into the store he strode.
His spurs they was a jingling – his stride was firm and long
he’d break that bloody trolley in today – his will was strong.

He threw his leg across the beast and gave no quarter there
it was a tad uncomfortable not like his easy chair,
he raised his hat and slapped it hard down on that wiry hide
and scooted through the Walmart aisles – and someone yelled ‘outside!’

That trolley bucked and spun about and tried to brush him off.
Fat chance ‘cause all of us folks know that Cowboy Mike is tough.
Again he yelled and waved his hat and cried ‘You’re out of luck
I’m hanging on, so give your all and kick your wheels and buck.”

The shoppers in the Walmart store looked on in sheer dismay.
They’d never seen the likes before. Few knew the cowboy way.
But then the game came to an end as store security
grabbed both Mike and the trolley, saying ‘Sir, please come with me.’

One cowboy, somewhat chastened, then dismounted from his steed
and hung his head in sorrow – Oh he had been bad indeed.
His wife was unaware of what her fellow had been doing
but I suspect that perhaps strife for our cowboy is brewing.

ya need to expand a bit on this Mausie a bit more action in the middle like going through the different departments and it would make a good performance piece.

I think the bloke concerned is a bit overwhelmed by my repartee and doesn't know what to make of me although his mates seem to have found it amusing :) He is a performance poet and singer himself - pretty big over there in Cowboy Music Circles. Who knows he might pick it up and run with it.

Like your idea Bob

I'm not too comfortable with that line being used though. It is too well known. Personally I would change a couple of those lines before someone I know sees it! lol
