Neville, I did not mean that we cannot learn. I was merely stating that we should be cautious. I understand what Bob is saying and I admire him for striving to learn.
In fact I find nothing wrong with two of Bob's examples that have been corrected:
"I glanced ALL around," is not the same as "glancing around" and "I felt so very much alone," is different to "feeling alone."
You might glance around, perhaps over your shoulder, for instance or you might glance all around indicating that you looked briefly at the whole scene .
Feeling very much alone conveys to me a feeling of total abject loneliness whereas feeling alone is a much less severe emotion.
