Bankers!

So rates are heading down once more,
which leaves me feeling rather poor,
as yet again what’s in my bank
is earning less…its value sank.
The GFC sure hit us bad,
and pinched our cash; the world went mad
as housing prices bounced around
and super funds went underground.
Our money headed down the drain
and won’t be worth the same again,
for bankers and economists
are just a bunch of egotists.
They thought they knew more than they did,
and left us hunting for a quid
when they flogged dodgy housing loans
as worthless as a pile of stones.
And so a price must still be paid
resulting from the mess they made,
for governments are printing dough
to try and pay the debts they owe.
Thus instability abounds
for euros, dollars, francs and pounds,
as all the experts are perplexed,
and no-one knows what happens next.
So retirees with cash in banks
won’t offer any words of thanks
to all the sharks who stuffed things up,
and sold the world a crippled pup.
I guess it’s hard to know what’s what
while out there on your fancy yacht,
or up there in your office suite
near half a mile above the street.
While struggling peasants down below
begin to wonder where they’ll go
if time reveals their greatest fears
and all their money disappears.

Re: Bankers!
Too true, David!
I think many of us experienced that "sinking" feeling as we watched our hard-earned Super seeping down the gurgler - especially with future pension benefits by no means assured.
Cheers
Shelley

Re: Bankers!
Rather sad David.
The Super schemes were elevated to the golden nest egg for retirees but sadly it has eroded away.
The verses tell the story well.
