The Muse Has Flown.
I settle down to writing but my brain is just a blank
no inspiration quickly comes to hand.
I sip another coffee that has started to go cold
but my mind just simply seems so under manned.
I used to be so tidy in my office every day
everything was stored in files so neat and trim.
Now I’m looking at the papers for a note from yesterday
but the chances of retrieval are so slim.
I lean back in my chair and look forlornly at the desk
is this just really what I have become.
A case with pills and tablets, nasal spray and scripts
seven pills a day a lot for some.
The top shelf spews forth paper bills, held upon a spike
why I keep them all, well I don’t bloody know.
Every year at tax time I just throw them in the bin
so towards the end of year the piles just grow.
The second one holds CD’s, poetry books and tapes
nick nacks that I’ve collected through the years.
a fishing book and sink plug that came from who knows where
a clutter that would bring my mum to tears.
Ink cassettes, usb sticks, scissors, pens and files
they spill elegantly out upon the desk.
Some Woolies shop-a-dockets that I kept for Earn and Learn
some pictures of the beach so picturesque.
I start to pick the pens up, there are five that I can see
there’s more I know underneath the pile
of bills and scattered rubble that scream “ Get yourself in check”
a fifty dollar note brings out a smile.
I open up the drawer to put the pens and scissors out of site
but I close it quickly just to save the grief.
I slowly open it again and think this mess is unbelievable
glasses and bull clips, crowd my mind in disbelief.
So I slowly lean back in my chair the muse has gone somewhere
there will be no poetry from me today.
I click on the favourites tab and settle in to have some fun
I go into online golf then start to play.

He wouldn't have a $50 note lying around that he didn't know about, he's fibbing.

Oh ye of little faith neville. I quite often find fifty and twenty dollar notes in the pockets when washing and yes this one was under some sheets of paper. The joys of unmarried life.

Re: The Muse Has Flown
Even when you have no inspiration to write poetry, you are able to write a poem.
Maybe the lure of finding cash will keep you inspired.
I am guessing in the fifth verse it should read 'The second shelf' and not 'The second self', unless your alter ego is standing beside you holding CDs and poetry books...
Maybe the Muse was there the entire time
