KAKADU WET
KAKADU WET
The pink purple turkey bush blossoms,
the bounty of figs and green plums,
are drawing me tropically northward
to wet season when the rain comes.
Purple green clouds roll with thunder.
Howling winds usher in storms.
The deluge of heavens spill open,
the torrents and cascades it forms.
Long into the night, distant lightning.
A concert of frogs fills the air,
as Kakadu changes complexion,
with new life reborn everywhere.
The colours intense and fluorescent,
lush greens against burning red soils.
The rivers now burgeon with life blood,
are running away with the spoils.
So beckon me northward December,
the year is not quite done with yet.
Just wash me in tropical splendour,
the beauty of Kakadu wet.

Wonderful poem Allan! It resonates strongly with me, because Kakadu and the Territory in general brought me so much inspiration while living in Darwin. This is definitely a keeper!

It's a big country, isn't it? Doesn't sound like Northcote.
Nice one, Allan.

Enjoyed this, Allan. We once did the top end in the rainy season - a whole different perspective!!!
