Why Do We Perform.

Post by Bob Pacey » Tue Sep 02, 2014 8:43 pm

I had a pretty busy day today with all the Vics on the move and 140 screaming grade eights on a school camp and had a show booked for a tour group which I was not to keen on doing after a full shift. I arrived to find 40 or so people champing at the bit for a bit of fun and they were up for it.

I ended up doing an hour and a half and they laughed in all the right places and were sad as required and I came away refreshed and on a high.

I got to thinking if I had not done the show what would I have done just sat at home with all my friends ( Neville ) so I wonder do we perform for the patrons benefit or for our own ?

How come I get a mention here :o

The performance is for the audience of course. Artistic integrity is a matter for the performer to settle in their own mind.

Hey how many poems committed to memory is enough ? I have 105 at the moment and still got a few more on the go ?

Can you have to many ? Some are only one or two minutes and others are eight or nine but once I get my teeth into a poem I just cannot let it go till I learn it .

I don't think so Marty,

A lot of the performances I do are for charitable organisations as they would be for a lot of our members.

Respite care, Helicopter Rescue, Heart Foundation, and Rural firies and if it helps to raise funds for them then that is a good thing or as in the case of Respite care groups bringing a little bit of joy or laughter into an otherwise mundane existence is a pleasure. Oh there are benefits for the performer as well as I get to meet and talk to some wonderful people and listen to their stories.

You may always get someone who does not like what you do and that will never change.
