Re: Prayer vs meditation
Interesting that a discussion on meditation and contemplation ends up at a rock concert.
I have yet to find the rock " star" renowned for their insightful philosophy.
We have a popular rock band up our way called The Screaming Jets. Says it all.

Re: Prayer vs meditation
I wonder if we will ever see a rock band called Think on These Things. Impossible, thinking is the very thing rock music is designed to obliterate.
Poetry on the other hand, is all about thinking, contemplation, meditation. Stephen Whiteside knows that, I'm sure.
One of my favourite scenes on TV is in Inspector Morse, the British detective who loves Wagner, Mozart and Schubert etc. He meets a lady who says to him " You look like a man who appreciates music "
"Yes" says Morse.
"What sort of music" she says, " I know...Jazz ?"
Morse pulls a very sour face and says " No..music ! "

Good one Neville! I like it!! (Not Jazz.....the quote). That reminds me of the quote I once heard in, I think the Blues Brothers Movie. "We play both styles of music. Country AND Western."

I can listen to and enjoy all types of music as long it IS music and not discordant or out of beat.

I've got nothing against rock music, Neville - though I'm ultimately a folkie at heart.

Yeah, like Dave I can listen to most types of music (Except what Jimmy Barnes presents as music) as for meditation, I have never done that, I thought mum said it would make me go blind, I already wear glasses so I'm not prepared to take the chance!.....
