Marty's gone off (topic) to write a poem about the battlefield heroics of that great Australian . . . General Chitchat

Ironicall I think (it goes something like this) The General helped build the first Fosseys Superstore in Armidale in 1954 - he turned the first sod (off Pacey). Prior to his acting career that peaked in 1969 as James Bond in On Her Majestys Secret Service, George Lazenby worked at that Fosseys Superstore in Armidale - he specialised in the "larger boys wear" section . . . rumour has it that this was where he garnered the reputation as a 'big pants man'. Georges Mum's name was Shiela, whose parents came to Australia on a boat in 1859, where they were forced to stop on the mid Atlantic island of St. Helena - which was where Napolean Bonaparte spent his last days. Napolean fathered several half-caste African slaves (to while away the days) one of whom fathered a girl by the name of Nancy who found her way to Australia by boat in 1902 and shacked up with a psuedo bushranger from Maryborough, Victoria by the name of Falkhead - who is my great great grandfather.

I'm with you, Heather. Anything that gives poets the opportunity to talk to each other - a social exercise, if nothing else - is a good thing.

I have a neighbour who goes fishing with a guy who works at the local fruit shop. I'm told this bloke knows a copper who plays golf with a paramedic who lives somewhere up near the NSW/Vic border. This guy knows a bloke whose daughter is a vet nurse who works for the vet who looks after the Dapto Dogs. That's only seven degrees of separation from the Dapto Dogs vet. How cool is that?

Marty, your grt grt grandfather was a bushranger! How cool is that? It's the ones we hide in the closet that are the most interesting.

Because we live so far apart and don't have the luxury of a local poets' group, this IS our meeting place. It's the way for us to mingle socially. Often the posts after a poem develop into a conversation - I noticed this week comments asking after a poet's health - something that shows the degree of friendship and caring that has developed over the time from this site. The chat has it's own section and no one is forced to participate but it's somewhere we can talk about other things - and because a lot of us have met, there are other things to talk about and there should be a place for it.

It's a fact that a lot of poems have been inspired by things that come from conversations and banter here. Conversation, debate and thinking about things is good for inspiring poetry - always have been and always should be.
