Happy Monday/what word is that?
Happy Monday to everyone,
On the thought of unusual words:
I have started holding my soft covered dictionary by the spine and allowing it to fall open wherever. Then I close my eyes and point to the page. I then look at the word so chosen. Then I try to include that word in either a conversation or a poem that day. It is another way of increasing my vocabulary. Naturally many of the words so chosen are totally useless in the context of daily life/writing, particularly if you don't leave the house that day.
Todays word was; 'suber' which means cork. Funny this comes directly after 'subedit' (rewrite) in my dictionary.
I have also been playing 'Word' with a couple of my writer friends, by computer. One of these friends lives in Cornwall, UK. and one of the others is Jenny Markham. I have about eight games in progress. No wonder I have trouble finding time to do housework.

Thanks Zondrae, I just added suber to my vocabulary. I'm doing well this week, first pogonotrophy, now suber, as in 'My Mum's got a super suber floor'.

' morning ladies.
Are you aware that dust will not gather in any place once it reaches the 'angle of repose' ?
Then it just falls away.
So, just ignore it !!!
Jim.

Re: Happy Monday/what word is that?
It is interesting looking up odd words, isn't it?
Robyn - where's your poem about Pogonotrophy?
Pogonotrophy’s alive and well
in society today
It’s a practice that’s confined to men –
it is not a womans way.
There is one called A La Souvarov,
there’s an anchor and a Balbo,
there’s a chin strap and a chin puff too;
there are forty two to grow.
For the art of pogonotrophy,
and this is the truth, I swear,
is a practice that you see each day –
it’s the growth of facial hair!!
