Horror story
I have to report a case of serious domestic abuse. My wife turned on the TV to display to me a geriatric rocker revving up 40 thousand people around a big fire ,to chant...Naaah nah nah, nanena nah, nanena nah , Hey Jude.
Forget Shakespeare, King James Bible, Milton, Vaughn Williams, Britten, Handel, Christopher Wren, Turner, Reynolds or Eliot. The high point of British culture is Naaah nah nah nanena nah, nanena nah, hey Jude.
I ran from the room clutching my stomach in case I was violently ill.
I think it had something to do with olympic games, but I couldn't quite match it to international athletics. I didn't want to know anyway.

Geez Nev, he sold more records than Beethoven. It was either him or Mick Jagger, and as much as I know you love the Rolling Stones, you were just outvoted by the Royal Family!

Re: Horror story
Sorry Neville,
But there are many more people who can sing the whole of that "na na na nannana na" song than can recite a single stanza of poetry correctly. I also add that Sir Paul is, by far, a wealthier man than any poet you could name. (sadly)
As I am currently in "no TV land" it took me a few seconds to remember there was some sporting event or other going on on the other side of the world. "Go the green and gold".."

Thanks for the considered replies everybody
Oh dear folks, money.., popular acclaim.., memories of youthful naivety..., at that rate Superman comics are a more artistic accomplishment than the Mona Lisa.

Re: Horror story
Love the Beatles but I totally agree with you Neville it was pretty poor. However even more dreadful was the moronic performance of the Arctic Monkeys earlier in the program and thank God you didn't see that!
Fair dinkum wouldn't you think that they could come up with a bit of class that would be appreciated by all the peoples of the world, wherever and whoever they may be and not that rubbish!
The old adage of "know your audience" was obviously forgotten because I am sure a very large chunk of the world wide television audience would have been appalled if not mystified by the Arctic Monkeys cacophony and the out of tune Hey Jude.
I will never forget Sarah Brightman and Jose Carreras singing "Friends For Life" at the Barcelona Games and I doubt anyone who saw or heard it ever will. Absolutely magnificent.

Re: Horror story
Yes, Mick Jagger was sadly overlooked and a stirring rendition of 'Sympathy For The Devil' would have been a wonderful introduction into a virtuoso performance from the Bay City Rollers. Were the Arctic Monkeys just the Monkeys reformed? I missed that bit, and the middle bit, and the end bit. Just saw Sir Paul on the News and couldn't see Ringo anywhere! Disturbing, but it is England!
