Taking farm diversification to the next level
Not sure if this is fair dinkum or whether someone is just having a go at the Poms - since this was in a UK paper and I am sure I haven't seen anything about it here....but it is a classic.
Great use for that unused shearing shed with a bit of spit and polish it could shine, now resplendent with polished boards. Could even supply each room with an escape chute in case any ducks on the pond ventured onto the boards. And what better use for the old dip but to turn it into a spa bath - perfectly suited and recycling at its best - and a bit of left over sheep dip added to the water would be sure to eliminate any nasties before they got a chance to contaminate the flock.
Unlike farming this is more dependent on the climax rather than the climate but exactly like farming huge losses can also be incurred.
This gentleman was looking to diversify and thought he was onto a good thing. Been to Inverell many times - think this might have been one of its best kept secrets

Having met a few of the " working girls " and their hangers-on to sort out criminal matters during the course of my work operations I can tell you that the brothel business is anything but humorous, delightfully whimsical or healthy.

Totally agree with you Neville it isn't - but you have to admit that a a means of farm diversification it falls into the bizarre category. we diversified into a lot of things to try and make the $$$$ go round but don't remember this ever being bought up as an option by our farm financial counsellor. Having said that if you were starting up a brothel in a drought affected farming area common sense would tell you that few would have the money to spend supporting it. All their spare cash would be going to try to save their properties and they would be bloody tired after a hard days yakka to be driving into town for a bit of hanky panky even if they could afford it. Phone sex might have been a better option Telstra would have liked that

Maureen I saw a doco on ABC maybe 18 mths or 2 years ago on this fellow. He was trying to look after his severely disabled wife, new baby and renovate up a house to turn into the brothel. It did open but wasn't terribly successful. This is really old news! I wonder if that is the film they are going to show?
