....orr Stephen...I am very dissapointed....I thought we were mates!....I have to agree with Bill and Marty, "Buddy" has exactly the same meanings as "Mate" just in a different language.. as for being gender specific...well mate used to mean male friend, or of course the other meaning which includes both genders, but now it is not so gender specific I believe and it is quite acceptable to call any mate....mate....hey mate?....
