Programme for 2015 Toolangi C.J. Dennis Poetry Festival

The Toolangi C.J. Dennis Poetry Festival is now less than two weeks away!

Here is the full programme.



Programme – “The Toolangi C.J. Dennis Poetry Festival” (2015)


Saturday, 17th October

1.30 – 3.00 pm: Awards Ceremony for Written Poetry Competition

3.00 – 3.15 pm: Afternoon Tea

3.15 – 5.30 pm: “Open Mike” session, followed by C.J. Dennis concert – poems and songs (various performers)

6.00 – 7.00 pm: Buffet Dinner

7.30 – 9.00 pm: Special Presentation: “The Songs of a Sentimental Bloke”, featuring Geoffrey W. Graham, Jim Haynes and Stephen Whiteside


Sunday, 18th October

09.30 – 10.45 am: “Poets’ Breakfast” (Morning Tea will be served during this.)

11.00 am – 12.00 midday: CD Launch – “The Two Bees”, featuring Maggie Somerville, Stephen Whiteside and Hugh McDonald.

12.30 – 1.30 pm: Lunch (including poetry led by Jim Brown and David Campbell)

2.00 – 3.30 pm: “Moving Theatre” featuring “C.J. Dennis” (John Derum), “Banjo Paterson” (Geoffrey W. Graham), Henry Lawson (Jim Haynes), and President of the C.J. Dennis Society, Stephen Whiteside. (Also to include ballet by local children to the song “The Satin Bower Bird” – words by C.J. Dennis, music by Maggie Somerville; ballet choreographed by Cathy Phelan).

4.00 pm: Afternoon Tea (and further “Open Mike” session)

5.00 pm: Festival to close with traditional performance of C.J. Dennis’ poem “Dusk” by Jim Brown.


Entry fees as follows:

$20 per day, or $35 for whole weekend.

Entry includes free tea/coffee. Food will be available for purchase. Alternatively, you can bring your own food and eat it on the premises.
