New event?

Post by Zondrae » Thu Aug 11, 2011 7:05 am

Morning all,

Illawarra Breakfast Poets are seriously considering putting on an event in Wollongong. Next year some time. We had in mind a one day festival of the spoken word. With poetry and yarn spinning.

If there was a performance competition with a trophy plus cash.... are there any of the readers of this site who may come to participate? We have available the local scout camp which has facilities for camping and one of the local service clubs would assist with man power.

We would also have a written comp at the same time.

If anyone has first hand knowledge as to costs (or other pitfalls) I would appreciate a pm.

very early days and none of us has much experience in this field. (but have put on other events)

Zondrae Would be quite willing to participate in the performance and yarn spinners section but please make it a prerequisite that you are able to read your works in the original section other wise count me out as my spoken memory is RS

Thanks for the reply Bill,

At this stage there are no rules. We are at the very early stage of the organising. In fact we are not even sure if it will be a goer. It is just at 'run it up the flag pole and see who salutes' stage. If we can't get a fare response we may just run a written comp to get the name know in the appropriate circles for a few years then extend it to a performance day.

aaahhuuumm!

Sorry Bob, If you check - I think I said no rules ...so far.

There is a mob down here that do 'Camp Oven Cooking'. I thought we may offer them first dibs at provding meals and perhaps one or two of the other stalls that frequest festivals. (with a veggie option) I'm sure if we try hard we could attract some other stall holders to pretty the place up. We would have to try not to clash with too many other events. (No more now, I'm on holiday.)
