GOSFORD BUSH POETS

Good Morning Everyone,

Well, we did dear old Henry Lawson proud at the Gosford Bush Poets last night. A great crowd, some wonderful reciters and presenters and more than a swag of Henry's poems and songs presented throughout the evening showed that he is and will always be remembered as one of our greatest poets and authors. A truly wonderful commemoration of Henry's birthday.

It was very pleasing to welcome a number of newcomers to the GBPs last night and good to see (and hear) them enjoy themselves so much on their first visit. Also great to see the return of old mates Frank Bulgin (the long absent President of our Mortdale Chapter) and Barry and Cay Ellem, who are visiting from their home in Queensland. Cay is of course the past Queensland State Champion Poet and Barry is the President of the North Pine Poetry Group.

During the evening we heard from: Ken Tough; Bob Rider; Marie Wellard; Barry Ellem; Cay Ellem; newcomer, John Westaway:Frank Bulgin; Jan Lock; Liz Corp Hodges; Brian Bishop; Shirley Rider; Peter Rae; Bob Wellard; June Hilton; Jack Dewberry;Dave and Therese Proust and Nick Lock.

By my reckoning there were nine of Henry's poems performed during the evening, including two wonderfully presented as songs by our resident tenor Nick Lock. Many of Lawson's works have been adapted to music and are truly inspiring in that form, but I am sure that Nick's rendition of the heartbreaking "Do They Think That I do Not Know?" must rate with the very best.

Now the exciting news is that Australian Champion Poet and winner of numerous poetry and performing awards Carol Heuchan will be our very special guest artist next month. Carol is renowned throughout the country as an amazing performer and has appeared at every major venue as well as on TV and radio and is certainly an act not to be missed! Put a mark on the calendar next to the last Wednesday of next month (July) and make sure you are at the Gosford Hotel well and truly before 7pm on that night to ensure you are able to secure a seat for what will be a huge night of great fun and fine poetry.

Hopefully the wandering Maces will have returned by our next meeting and we look forward to welcoming them home from their overseas travels.

Very Best Regards,

Vic Jefferies
