GOSFORD BUSH POETS

G'day Everyone,

Well, well, what a night it was! Despite the inclement weather, despite the NRL staging the second State of Origin football match on the same night and despite the shenanigans in Canberra between Kevin and Julia, thirty five very sensible and ardent supporters of bush poetry attended the Gosford Hotel last night to be rewarded with a smashing night of great poetry, very much fun and a stellar performance by our guest artist Jenny Markwell!

Jenny presented a wonderfully eclectic selection of traditional, original and contemporary poetry and demonstrated why she has been so successful in so many poetry competitions.
From Henry Lawson's marvellous old poem Black Bonnet through to George Essex Evan's classic The Women of the West, Jenny thoroughly entertained and enchanted her audience.
A great performance by a very skilled reciter and we hope to see Jenny return to the GBPs!

During the evening we also heard from: Kevin Gee; Fran Bush; June Hilton; Arch Bishop; Ken Tough; Brian Bishop; Keith Patrech; Annie Collins; Bob Markwell and Peter Mace.

Now, notwithstanding the foregoing (love that phrase) we will do it all again at 7pm on the last Wednesday night of the month (31/7) at the marvellous Gosford Hotel and we look forward to seeing you all there to help us enjoy what will be another bobby dazzler of a night.

Thank you Neil. I don't know that we actually set the yardstick for Australian Bush Poetry groups, but Peter Mace ad I are pretty chuffed with the continuing success of the Gosford Bush Poets and we must admit both a little amazed that the group is still going strong in this its eighth year.
