He always told me make an effort
to stand up for yourself.
if you don't do it no one will
and you'll just be left on the shelf.

Go head on with life's struggles
put your shoulder to the wheel.
Don't just put the boot in
use your whole leg and your heel.

Listen to your heart mate
that's what my old man said.
those nights when he came home late
and tucked me into bed.

Good character's what makes a man
make sure you always play it fair.
A bit of good old fashioned courage
can get you most anywhere.

There are just so many people
who live their lives as lies.
When with a little bit of gumption
they could own the world and skies.

I hope I’ve passed these words along
to my own son as he’s grown.
With a little bit of effort
all the world can be your own.

A handshake always seals a deal
with people you can trust.
Just make sure you do the best you can
and honesty’s always a must.

So knuckle down and toughen up
and make sure you get things done.
But remember if you need a hand
I'll always be there for you son.
