A Wise Man

37 - A wise Man

A very wise man once told me,
as only a wise man can,
be careful what you wish for,
and respect your fellow man.
Don’t bite the hand that feeds you,
think twice before you speak,
all good comes to those who wait,
try landing on your feet.

So many things to say and do,
so many things to see,
you don’t always get what you want,
so it’s up to you and me.
Take only what’s on offer,
in prayer, drop to your knees.
manners are rewarded,
say thank you and yes please.

If - it -fits, then wear it,
and save for a rainy day,
if the boots on the other foot,
don’t look the other way.
Things aren’t always as they seem,
so look before you leap,
always take it on the chin,
and stand on your own two feet.

Making hay, on sunny days,
paid to work, not think,
working in the midday sun,
can lead a man to drink.
Make your bed to lie in,
keep your family fed,
hard works not the killer,
don’t waste your life in bed.

So many little ups and downs,
too many ins and outs,
be clear, direct, and decisive,
and always in the shout.
The grass is never greener,
you’re not yet over the hill,
on the gas is golden,
play safely on the pill.

Think before you answer,
be careful what you say,
life can turn things on its head,
tomorrows another day.
Pace yourself, don’t rush it,
so many more to meet,
choose the path you travel,
travel lightly on your feet.

Taking a siesta,
or taking forty winks,
have the party of your life,
but never mix your drinks.
Stay alive don’t drink and drive,
get up and out of bed,
live each day as if your last,
all better off, less said.
