If it’s Flooded then Forget it

7 - If its Flooded, then Forget It

If it’s Flooded, then Forget it, heed the warning day and night, the driver sat and watched the creek run down.
To turn up late was better than to not turn up at all, safely crossed, he rolled on in to town.

You just don’t see it coming, till it’s towering over head,
Clouds amass above you, way up high,
The silence is then broken, with a flash of blinding light,
surrounds you as it cracks across the sky.

Thunder rolls and rumbles, with its timing out of sync, but soon reveals the storm is touching ground.
Cracked earth overflowing, and the flats all filling fast, in no time, creeks and rivers streaming down.

A wall of water rising, as it gathers limbs and leaves, the roll forever growing as it spreads.
Spilling over banks, joining other streams, and consuming all within, live or dead.

The driver in his road train, been on the road for hours, the storm looked far away and out of reach,
Legs and feet were cramping, pushing through, the miles, stretching, yawning, squirming in his seat.

The truck was breaking quickly, with the flooded creek in view,
Skidded to a halt at waters edge.
The level stick gives warning, not now, it’s way too deep,
backs out seeking safety on the ledge.

If it’s Flooded, then Forget it, heed the warning day and night, the driver sat and watched the creek run down.
To turn up late was better, than to not turn up at all, safely crossed, he rolled on in to town.

Good advice, Glen - which so often goes unheeded, with tragic consequences.
