Feels Like ‘74

2 - Feels like ‘74

There’s thunder rolling in the North,
the sky is turning grey,
monsoons on the move at last,
good rain’s on the way.
Lake Eyre now is shining,
and the deserts turning green,
creeks are over flowing,
with more rain than ever seen.

West Coast has gone under,
with massive flooding rain,
records have been broken,
banks are under strain.
Stock marooned on islands,
and there’s little room to share,
stockmen are all stranded,
and just staring in despair.

Thunder just keeps rolling,
it’s raining day and night,
higher ground sought by all,
just no end in sight.
The inland’s going under,
and a call’s gone out for boats,
nature’s clinging tightly,
on to anything that floats!

Roads and rail washed away,
travel to it’s knees
rain drops playing catch-up,
dripping off the trees.
The dogs are waiting keenly,
shaking raindrops from their coats,
our leaders are all clueless,
and still working on their votes.

Those of us who were around,
back in seventy four,
know too well, what it’s like,
we’ve seen all this and more.
So plan ahead, take a breath,
it’s man against the weather,
man a boat, grab an oar,
it’s time to pull together.

Yes indeed, Glen - very much a sense of deja-vu in our neck of the woods!

Our river peaked below the 74 level, thankfully!

Cheers
