THE SEEKER OF TRUTH

Post by Maureen K Clifford » Sat Aug 31, 2019 12:25 pm

THE SEEKER OF TRUTH .. Maureen Clifford © The #ScribblyBark Poet

'You can see from the photos how skinny they are
they are starving there on Kosciuszko.'

These photos aren't fake ... it's a parcel of lies
and saying it's true won't make it so.
You can see for yourself these Brums are in good nick,
they're sassy and fat with coats glossy,
and the grass is as high as an elephants eye ...
native frogs take their ease on rocks mossy.

They have coats of all colours, bright red, chestnut, bay,
gold and silver - a descendant of Thowra,
and they're taking their ease 'neath the shelter of trees,
scratching backs with a roll in wild flowers.
High above eagles fly in cerulean skies
viewing all from their lofty domain.
All is well in their world, and with wings tightly furled
they swoop downward, a rabbit to gain.

In early morns mist when the dew drops have kissed
the sweet yellow flowers out on the plain,
with a backdrop of Gums stand the foals with their Mums
as they calmly graze 'cross their terrain
The big stallion, red glowing hide, brumby bred
watches over his mares and his offspring.
Velvet ears swivel round alert to every sound,
whilst his muscles are coiled like a box spring.

There are none who would harm them up there at this time,
just a woman who to them is known,
for she follows their trails taking pictures, and scales
the escarpments that they call their home.
They have no fear of her, but there's mutual respect
seems they know cameras aren't a weapon
Joined in sweet harmony they graze safely today,
all at peace and relaxed ... none are threatened.

She's a seeker of truth a dispeller of lies
and her photos - well they tell the story.
Of brumbies running free, tiny foals at Mum's knee,
and the stallions proud in their glory.
Where the winter snow's thick, and the creeks crystal clear,
and the newts and the small frogs are thriving.
The pollution some claim, well it's simply not here.
Such a shame some folks are so conniving.

*** This poem was written against Govt reports that our Kosciosko brumbies were starving to death and causing great areas of damage to waterways, when clear photographic evidence pointed to the fact that the damage was being caused by pigs and deer, and that the brumbies were in fact very healthy. A local photographer in that area is constantly trekking the areas that the brumbies use, and taking photographs on a regular basis showing that the creeks are crystal clear and clean with plenty of skinks and frogs in the area. The Govt's agenda is that they want to remove all brumbies from all National Parks.

Another great poem, Maureen, on a different but equally heart-breaking subject. I cannot understand the government at all on this (mind you, there are a lot of things I don't understand about various governments!)... I admire this photographer who is proving them wrong, and also the way in which you continue to write in support of these beautiful brumbies.

Thank you Catherine - I hate injustice, whether it be to people or animals or our earth, and as long as I have breath in my body I will speak out against it as best I can. Animals are my passion though for they haven no voice but ours.
