OUT WEST

When I moved out west up the red dirt track
With an oi oi oi and the kangaroo goes
I worked on the edge of the great outback
And the bull ants bite you on the toes.

I upheld the law in a wild west town
With an oi oi oi and the kangaroo goes
Where Hairy Man haunts as the sun goes down
And the bull ants bite you on the toes.

On the hot dry nights boys were worse for drink
With an oi oi oi and the kangaroo goes
Head spins and a fight got them in the clink
And the bull ants bite you on the toes.

Now I miss the shimmering mulga plain
With an oi oi oi and the kangaroo goes
A pull on the heart that I can’t explain
And the bull ants bit you on the toes.

Who'd be a policeman Neville?

Especially in Bull Ant country.
Fairly lyrical too, could be a song as well as a poem.

Cheers Mate

Quite right Terry, playing around with a bit of Elizabethan song form. :)

I really like this Neville - a novel subject for an Elizabethan ballad!

Know what you mean Nev, (From my experience out west many years ago) something about out there that seems to call you back! Um it's not the bull ants though. :D

Gday Neville, 12 months or so back, I was doing some work at one of the local fish factories, it came to the attention of one of the young blokes there that I had written a book of poetry, he got so excited he got on line and found several copies...all over the world ! I said I still had a couple of copies but he had already ordered one on line...at more than what I was selling them for! Some of them were for sale at double what I ever sold them for....imagine what they will be worth when I die...
