THE BALLAD OF WINX
Australia's had some champions,
Along the rails of turf,
Big thoroughbreds in racing mode,
That proved their time on earth.
There's Phar Lap and old Tulloch,
And the Goondiwindi Grey,
The names of these great stayers,
Are Immortalized today.
When Banjo cheered home Pardon.
When he raced towards the cup,
His horseman - love for racing,
Was for always going up.
Then a poet sets out verses,
For the jockey and his horse,
To reach the winning post line,
with eager sweat an force.
The names of our great trainers,
That comes into our heart,
Of Colin Hayes and T.J Smith,
And best of all old Bart.
Queen Elizaberth stakes at Randwick,
When you guided Bowman through,
The crowed roared in their thousands,
Renowned for what you do.
A professional top horse rider,
From a farm near Dunnedoo,
At sixteen years - Hugh Bowman,
Made his racing dream come true.
He combined with Winx and Waller,
In the sport of kings that shine,
And saluted fans and punters,
As they dashed across the line.
We've spent some time on horse back,
In the saddle - in the bush,
Far away from major race tracks,
And the evening racing push.
With some drought across the country,
That has been here for a while,
But on Winx's final race day,
She just made Australia smile.
