About those missing socks ...

A suburban crime
Leonie Parker © Sept 09

A funny thing happens in this land of ours,
not sure if it happens elsewhere.
A gang of one legged thieves covertly scours
the suburbs for our underwear.

They only take one sock they don’t need the two
so they leave us with nary a pair,
but lately they’ve branched out, they’re trying to do
something else, now it’s teaspoons they snare.

My teaspoons go missing I lose one a day
and I have no idea where they’ve gone.
It could be those one legged thieves, but I’ll say
now I’m thinking I had it all wrong.

Remember that funny old nursery rhyme
about cows jumping over the moon?
We all thought the dish had committed the crime,
but the sock ran away with the spoon.

applause, applause,

well done Leonie. An original solution to both problems. I love it.

Good to see you appearing again Leonie, alias Trublu.

I like your little verse.

Thanks all,

I've been quiet because we have been holidaying on the Sunshine Coast for a little while, and there's a misnomer if I ever heard one. :x Sunshine Coast, I don't think so. Bleak and windy coast would be more like it. We towed our little tinny up there and the car was using more and more petrol until we realised we had put the bungs in and the boat was filling up with water, getting heavier and heavier. Anyway we cut our holiday short and came back so now of course the weather is clearing up nicely.

As for the poem, I think it was a homework topic a couple of years back (as you can probably see by the date), it's full of mistakes that jump out at me now, but I still like it, just the way it is, a bit of fun. Sometimes I think I try too hard and lose something along the way, so it's good to revisit the odd old one from time to time.

Now I have heard of people leaving the bungs out and taking off fishing but never leaving them in and nearly sinking on dry land.
