The Peach

The Peach

The skin of a peach is furry and dry and stringy and chewy and thin.
You can chew it and swallow it down with the peach, though some people opt for the bin.

The stone of a peach is as hard as a rock. It is never an object to bite.
It’ll make merry hell with your molars and canines, and give your incisors a fright,

But the flesh of the peach is like heaven on earth. It is luscious and juicy and sweet.
Its juice will drip down from your mouth to your chin, and will splash on your hands and your feet.
Your tongue will rejoice in its flavour and texture. No other fruit can compare;
The peach has charisma, a wondrous aroma, elegance, style and flair.
The peach is a masterpiece hung on a wall, an artwork that’s blown out of glass,
A Beethoven symphony played by an orchestra - violins, woodwind and brass.
The peach is the view from a high snowy peak, a languorous day at the beach.
Whatever superlatives you can amass, my friend, my dear friend…that’s the peach!

Thanks, Shelley. But is it bush poetry?

Blimey, Stephen! I don’t know ...

It rhymes, it has metric beat, and we grow peaches in Australia ... so why not?

Cheers

Yes, that't the letter of the law. Think there might be a few dissenters, though...

Yum, I can just taste one reading this! Great poem Stephen - it's been a very long time since I enjoyed a delicious ripe peach!

And then there's nectarines. And plums. And apricots. Peaches by another name? Sadly, the season is coming to an end.

Cheers

Peaches are quite pleasant
And nectarines are nice.
But mangoes are the king of fruit
in rapturous delight.

Yes, mangoes are great. I always thought the durian was the king of fruit.
