The Waterfalls are Roaring
Here in Victoria, record spring rains have meant the waterfalls are booming.
The Waterfalls are Roaring
The waterfalls are roaring
For the water, it is pouring,
While the mists of spray are soaring
In a razzle dazzle show.
The cataracts are crashing
While the currents deep are clashing,
And the whole caboose is smashing
On the terraces below.
It’s been raining all September
And there’s none who can remember
So much as one scant ember
Of a deluge such as this,
And for those who live off touros,
Making dollars out of euros,
Feeding news to travel bureaus,
It’s the cause for bags of bliss.
There’s a sound like steady thunder
As the streams are torn asunder
And the droplets plummet under-
Neath a ragged rocky edge.
There the lovers stand, unblinking,
With their smooth arms gently linking.
We can guess what they are thinking
As their lives and love they pledge.

Re: The Waterfalls are Roaring
Hi Stephen ...
Well, that is a surprise ending!
I like your rhyme scheme - it seems to echo the "boom boom" of the rushing water!
As long as there isn't too much flood damage, you are right about the tourist dollar - I know what happens up in North Queensland when the Barron Falls start to thunder. People come.
Cheers

Yes, I wasn't expecting the introduction of the lovers ... which was a nice surprise!

It's the landslides that have been roaring down our way, Stephen. And if there have been any lovers hanging round they've steered well clear of ragged rocky edges!

Yes, avalanches, landslides, earthquakes...they're not quite as romantic, are they?

That's a beaut write Stephen - I like it. I like the touch of romance amidst the cacophony of nature - it has a softening touch.
