Beating the Blues!

© David Campbell 01/08/16

She was blonde, she was slim, she worked out in a gym,
her figure was men’s delight.
She was smart, she was cute, and she drove an old ute,
her smile was a flash of light.

She could laugh, tell a joke, she could drink like a bloke,
her language made parsons blush.
She could clean, bake a cake, grill a bloody good steak,
she’d never been known to gush.

She could abseil a cliff and dismantle a diff,
ride waves like a seasoned pro.
She could turn on the charm, had a great throwing arm,
and always had lots of dough.

As for me, I’m a jerk, just a flamin’ great berk
(to quote a few birds I’ve known),
for I don’t stick around, keep my feet on the ground…
’cause truckies live life alone.

So she made my heart sing when she said: “I’ve a thing
for guys who can drive a truck…
why not have a few beers then try meshing our gears?”
I couldn’t believe my luck!

But before we had kissed she quite ruined our tryst
by saying, to my surprise,
she supported the Blues, which was terrible news.
Yours truly? The mighty Pies!

But I swallowed my pride and soon made her my bride,
for love, in the end, wins out,
and it just had to be, her communion with me,
so “Come on the Saints!” we shout.

The mind boggles, David

Though, mind you, footy rivalries "down south" pale into insignificance when compared with the life-and-death battle of blues-vs-maroons that takes place north of the Victorian border!!

.... as Bob will no doubt verify!! ;)

Cheers
