I AM HORSE

I AM HORSE
Allan Cropper ©

Tether me to hitching posts wherever you shall ride
Statuesque, I shall remain in wait
'til saddle bagged and mounted, I will take you in my stride,
resolute, with strong and steady gait.
Your comrade, your companion, your most loyal devotee,
never shall I shirk the task ahead,
for horse and rider are as one, and never will there be
a stronger bond 'tween man and beast that's bred.
So ride me into battle, gallop me across the plain,
I carry you, sat squarely on my back.
Through sting of scorching summer, or through driving winter rain,
along and far beyond the beaten track.
Together we are bonded by a history and a pride
that keeps us steadfast to our chosen course.
You the reinsman, seated proudly, clearly born to ride
I am Equus, il Cavallo...Horse.

Good one Allan. A nice use of personification, telling the story from the point of view of the horse. It's an angle that works well in poetry.

Cheers

Yes I really like this one too Allan. It is a lovely tribute, told well from the point of view of the horse. Nice one!
