Killer Balloons

Killer Balloons.
Please think before you release them.

They look so pretty in the air
flying high without a care,
Fat balloons all filled with gas
fun for every lad and lass.

But do you know that though so grand
sometime , somewhere they will land.
Mostly in our precious oceans clear
they kill the creatures we hold dear.

They look like food as there they lie
sure to catch a creatures eye.
Our birds and turtles they don’t know
and their death is oh so slow.

The list is endless, deaths so sad
from largest whale to smallest shad.
They all suffer greatly then they die
enough to make a grown man cry.

Change can happen if we dream
no matter how hard it may seem.
So think before you set them free
the choice is up to you and me.

Balloons, cigarette butts, plastic bags, micro plastics. They all end up in the stomachs of our marine life.

Bits of fishing line also. So important that anglers leave their trimmed leaders INSIDE their boats. Good poem Bob.

So sadly true Bob and an important topic to write about. I saw a clip last week where a photographer was taking pictures of birds somewhere in the Pacific region and it was just horrifying and reduced me to tears. There were carcasses everywhere and those that had been there for quite a while revealed their poor insides just full of plastic! Mother birds had been feeding their chicks with it in their ignorance - the beaches were swamped with brightly coloured trash and the carnage was heart breaking.
