We of The never - never
All the country folk were cheering
Barnaby had got the nod.
He will stand right up to Malcolm
The pompous bloody sod.
Cause he comes from the country
and he knows just how we hurt.
When they favour all the big blokes
Who want to take our dirt.
He will tell them where to go
and what to do with all their dough.
Ya can’t eat coal he’ll tell em
He will stand and argue toe to toe.
Yeah it is good to see some backing
things will soon be lookin fine.
Cause he’s the sorta country fella
Who won’t toe the party line.
Well I tell ya mate I’m gob smacked
You could belt me with a feather.
I really thought he was the one
Who would support the never-never.
I picked up me local paper
and it is there in black and white.
He’s right behind the miners
and gave in without a fight.
The jobs are there he reckons
Where they push around the dirt.
Not in the never - never
So here comes a world of hurt.
Big yellow things he told em
That’s the way that we should go.
If anyone could understand us
I always reckoned he would know.
Ah well I suppose it had to happen
all our dreams have turned to mush..
And when push comes down to shove mate
They’re all tared with the same brush.
