At Eden's Hills in S A there is a statue in that marks the loss of thousands of children during the governments campaign of ethnic cleansing known as the Stolen Generation

EMPTY ARMS .... Maureen Clifford © The #ScribblyBark Poet

Her arms were empty like her heart
her child stolen away
by those who thought it for the best;
but at the end of day
there is no love like mother's love,
there are no arms as warm
and family can't be replaced
regardless of the home.

And very many years have passed
and still they feel the pain
and dispossession from their land
for very little gain.
And 'sorry' is the hardest word
it seems to pass one's lips
and even 'sorry' can't atone
for sorrow's dark eclipse.

She sits upon her granite mound
with teardrops on her cheeks
and hums a tune she used to sing
to the baby she seeks.
Her baby now would be full grown.
There's grey now in her hair
and still she sits with arms outstretched -
her memory see's him there.

Beautiful and sad Maureen. 'sorry can't atone for sorrow's dark eclipse'...I particularly like that line.

A very sad, yet beautiful in the extreme.

I love this poem a lot. It rings true with anyone who may have lost a young one.
