THE PRICE OF REFUGE

THE PRICE OF REFUGE

The price of passage has been paid and now it’s paid again
in human life, and tears, mind numbing fear and pain.
The moon is full, the seas are high and falling all around
is the wreckage of the boat and there’s no safe place to be found.

As daylight creeps into the dark their plight is soon discovered,
but none can get help to them. Fathers, sisters, mothers, brothers,
tiny children - all are lost at sea - in Neptune’s arms to rest,
others struggle to reach land on Christmas Islands rocky breast .

Today the seas are calm and smooth, with white clouds up above
in a sky bluer than robins eggs. Tall pines house Emerald Doves.
The Frigate Birds sail gracefully on updrafts that are strong
as a Christmas Island Thrush mourns those lost souls with his sweet song.

Sad how mankind forces tragedy on each other.

Sad reflections Maureen.
