Love Poem

I kissed her yeasty mouth,
and left her in the south,
emotions bubbled over as I drank.
The minutae got gorier
as I parted with Victoria,
my first love; the one who I must thank.

Then not the only fella,
who fell for Belgian Stella,
entombed below a Scottish Highland peak.
I couldn’t quite recall
when Stella made me fall,
which added to her oomphy and mystique.

Indulgences inflicted,
I soon became addicted,
knowing too much Stella wasn’t good for me.
I left before she’d leave me
knowing Stella wouldn’t grieve me,
and I took off east across the Baltic Sea.

Then by chance I grew quite fond
of a feisty Danish Blonde,
A visa run so soon – I had to fly.
My breath and all my speech
was taken on Langkawi Beach,
that tasty Tiger bled my wallet dry.

Then a one night stand with Brandy,
after flirting with young Shandy,
and sweet Sangria my Spanish souvenir.
So luscious I could eat her;
salty sultry Margarita,
but way out of my depth without a beer.

Then Victoria was Bitter,
when coming home I hit her.
Yeah me and all my mates we hit her hard.
Then late and drunk and muddled,
up to Vic I gently cuddled,
my love for her one could not disregard.

....mate you have a problem!...and a head ache I would suspect...green cans?...surely you can do better than that!

I remember as a younger bloke I felt my courage brewing
but I never had the chance to leave these shores
but I travelled round Australia - if I passed you then I’d wave ta ya
and my postcards home had four kisses for sure.
As a young bloke my imbibing was by my pockets subscribing
to this countries economy though mine were mighty thin
and I guess we all have lovers who we rate above all others
but for me my only true love was a little yellow tin.

She left me nothing to fall back on as she took every spare cent I had - but oh I couldn't give her up.

They may be illiterate, but they made their mark, cause there were FOUR X s on the paper.
Saturday was where they were to meet at the CASCADE at SOUTHARK near the WEST END there where the tree up on the CROWN that showed its GOLD TOP.
The TOOHEYS brothers were late. Poor old CARLTON was bitter for he was in the draft
but he was rather glad his mates came. There was HIENECAN, MILLERS, BUDWIESSER and his solid mate GUINESS, STOUT he must be for he held up his friend FOSTER. LIGHT headed he was, for he had been kicked by an EMU and chased by a SWAN. LAGER you see did not agree with him nor did PALE ALE so he drunk a DARWIN STUBBIE but that’s another story

you're right Rossco . . I can do better than the green can, and I do - I go easy on the Cascade Lights during the week but enjoy a few Miller Chills (with a hint of lime) on the weekend. I also dabble with my own brew. And I spoil myself when I'm in Dan Murphys and buy few Leffe's and Duvel's. Duvel is an exquisite beer . . any connoisseur of the amber fluid do yourself a favour and try it . . but be warned - it's 8.5% alcohol and about $9 per stubbie . . yes, moderation indeed.

....relieved to hear that mate, had you picked as a bloke with a bit more class than VB! I don't think I have tried Duvel, I frequent the Coopers website from time to time and it rates a mention on there a bit (The homebrewing forum) Though $9 a stubbie is a bit on the dear side, I spent the night at Cadney Park on the Stuart highway a couple of weeks ago, (between Coober Pedy and the NT border in SA)....$5.80 for a bloody yellow can! thats gold too not heavy, you can buy a 30 pack for about $45! Needless to say a couple with my tea was all I partook in.

I like it Marty. I'm not qualified to be a judge but I think that you have done a very good job with imaginative wording.

When I read it I thought of an incident at one of our bush poets gigs. Our President was reciting one that describes an apparent romantic encounter, half way through, a person in the audience turned to his neighbour and said in a voice heard all over,
"I think it's about a cow " You should have seen the look on the performers face.
