You've set yourself a big task to write on that theme.
And I hope things work out, public confession is a major step.
Just on the poetic side, just my opinion, I think that the sonnet form or the five stresses to a line ( pentameter ) is a better way to deal with that sort of subject.
Yours has a sort of four + three stresses per line, more like the ballad style which might prove to be a bit " bouncy'' for a solemn subject like ; forgiveness and reconciliation over longstanding issues.
The five stresses line (iambic or trochaic pentameter) tends to slow the pace, make a more reflective mood. Look at Shakespeare's plays and you can see what I mean.
" The quality of mercy is not strained
It droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven "
etc.....
Just some thoughts on style. take em or leave em. Meant for encouragement, I comment because I thought that the task you have set yourself here is worth doing.
But I could be wrong.
