If I Didn't Have To Go To Work Today

If I Didn’t Have To Go To Work Today
If I didn’t have to go to work today,
Think of all the things that I could say,
Devoting all the time, instead, to play,
If I didn’t have to go to work today.
If I didn’t have to go to work today
I could turn my mind instead to being fey,
And acting in a most erratic way,
If I didn’t have to go to work today.
If I didn’t have to go to work today,
I’d turn my back on anything that’s grey.
I’d lose my shoes and socks and join the fray
If I didn’t have to go work today.
If I didn’t have to go to work today
I might expose my body to a ray
Of sunshine. At the beach perhaps I’d stay
If I didn’t have to go to work today.
If I didn’t have to go to work today
A street away they’d hear me shout “Hooray!”
No longer would I feel my feet were clay
If I didn’t have to go to work today.
If I didn’t have to go to work today
I might go fishing out upon the bay.
Perhaps I’d even catch a tasty cray
If I didn’t have to go to work today.
If I didn’t have to go to work today,
Attractions would present in bright array,
And if the sun shone bright I’d make some hay
If I didn’t have to go to work today.
If I didn’t have to go to work today,
I might arrange some flowers in a spray.
Perhaps I’d potter with a horse and dray
If I didn’t have to go to work today.
If I didn’t have to go to work today
I’d sail a little boat to Mandalay.
I might just travel as a stowaway
If I didn’t have to go work today.
Last night in bed I had a mind to pray
That I wouldn’t have to go to work today,
But still I find I have some bills to pay…
So I guess I’d better go to work today.
