A Fine Clip

Here's a little horse poem - a proper BUSH poem - for all you horse lovers!

A Fine Clip

Her hair is so long, and she builds such a sweat
When I ride her. It irks me. I worry. I fret.
Please, won’t you clip her, and make her hair short?
Do it for me. Oh, come on, be a sport!

The winter is coming, we know that is true,
But it isn’t here yet. I am saying to you
That it still is too early; we clip her too soon,
We’ll have to repeat the whole process in June.

Oh, please, won’t you clip her! She doesn’t look nice.
What do I care if it means she’s done twice?
I want her to look like a trim, natty horse.
I want to feel proud as I trot round the course.

Oh, don’t be so silly. There’s horses much worse.
It just isn’t needed, so think of your purse.
Now, don’t you start pouting, and stamping your feet.
I will not be moved by your pitiful bleat!

It just isn’t fair! You should do as you’re told!
I am not your servant! I’m not yours to scold!
So, don’t be a baby. Go have a good canter.
I don’t have the patience for this idle banter.

I’ll report you, and then you’ll be sorry for sure!
You threaten me, and I’ll even the score!
Help me! He’s shouting! He shouldn’t do that!
What are you doing you wretched young brat?

Take him away! I am frightened and sad!
Lock him in prison he’s evil. He’s bad.
(A new man arrives as a matter of course…)
Oh please, do you mind, sir, just clipping my horse?
